Edit PDF metadata online

PDF metadata is the set of document properties stored beside the pages. Upload a PDF and the editor reads those properties, then fills every detected value into its matching field. Clear one value to remove that field, change it, or add a custom document-info key.

PDF metadata fields you can change

Title: The document name shown by PDF readers and file search.
Author: The person or organisation responsible for the document.
Subject: A short description of what the PDF covers.
Keywords: Search terms used to find and classify the PDF.
Creator: The application that created the source document.
Producer: The application or library that produced the PDF.
Created / modified: The recorded creation and last-change dates.
Trapping: Whether the document was prepared for print trapping.
Custom fields: Extra named text values used by a document workflow.

How to change PDF metadata

Choose or drop a PDF. Existing values are filled in automatically.
Keep Edit fields selected, then change, clear, or add the values you need.
Optionally enter the same password twice to lock the finished PDF.
Update the metadata, then download the new PDF.

Remove metadata from a PDF

Choose Remove everything to strip both common metadata stores: the PDF document-info dictionary and the XMP packet. This removes hidden author, title, software, keyword, and date properties without flattening the pages or changing visible text. Words printed on a page are page content, so they are not removed as metadata.

Edit metadata and password-protect the PDF

The password step is optional and runs after the metadata change. When set, the output uses AES-256 encryption and requires the password to open. Store it safely, because the editor does not keep a copy and does not recover forgotten passwords.

Which PDF metadata fields can I edit?

You can edit title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, creation date, modification date, and trapping status. Existing custom document-info fields are also shown, and you can add new named text fields.

Can I remove all metadata from a PDF?

Yes. Choose Remove everything to remove the PDF document-info dictionary and its embedded XMP metadata packet. The page content, forms, links, bookmarks, and attachments stay in the file.

Will editing metadata change the PDF pages?

No. The tool updates the PDF metadata objects with qpdf. It does not render, compress, or rebuild the page content.

Can I add a password while editing PDF metadata?

Yes. Enter and confirm a password before saving. The finished PDF uses AES-256 encryption and asks for that password whenever it is opened.

Is my PDF uploaded?

The existing metadata is read in your browser. When you save, the PDF is sent over the encrypted connection for the metadata update and optional password step, then the temporary working copy is deleted when the job ends.

Can I edit metadata in a password-protected PDF?

Remove the PDF's open-password first with the PDF Unlock tool, then load the unlocked copy in the metadata editor. This tool does not try to recover unknown passwords.
